Students from İbn Haldun University’s Faculty of Law achieved a remarkable victory in the Clean Energy category at the “2024 WMGIC x NATO Countering Disinformation Challenge,” held online on November 1, 2024, winning a $500 prize.
Organized by the William & Mary Global Innovation Challenge (WMGIC) in collaboration with NATO, this prestigious event encourages students worldwide to develop innovative solutions to counter disinformation.
The İbn Haldun University team, consisting of law students Aleyna Oruçoğlu, Zehra Nur Arık, and M. Furkan Arık, captured the attention of the judges with their original and impactful proposal. This cohesive teamwork earned the team first place in the Clean Energy category, and their public presentation at the closing ceremony received high praise, showcasing the potential of young people in the fight against global disinformation.
Throughout the competition, participants explored strategic solutions for NATO across a range of pressing issues, including Artificial Intelligence, Public Health, the Russia-Ukraine Conflict, Gender-Based Violence, Terrorism, Clean Energy, and Human Rights. The İbn Haldun University team had the opportunity to present their innovative Clean Energy strategies on the international stage, demonstrating the impact of their solutions.
Following this achievement, the team will continue their student-led initiatives, guided by the valuable support of coaches Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Erol and Res. Asst. M. Talha Kaan, in various projects. The team members also actively contribute to the “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Law and Policy Research” project within İbn Haldun University’s Faculty of Law and aim to extend their strategic work in similar fields.
