The Opening Lecture of Ibn Haldun University School of Law for the 2026-2027 Academic Year was held on 22 September 2026 at the Teoman Duralı Conference Hall of the Media and Events Centre.
Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın, a professor from Istanbul Medipol University School of Law, delivered the lecture titled “Ottoman Law in Legal History” and addressed the place of Ottoman law within the broader history of law.
Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın outlined the historical development of the Ottoman legal system. Among the themes he addressed were the legal order that enabled communities of different faiths and backgrounds to live alongside one another, and the role of the courts in the resolution of disputes. Prof. Aydın concluded by turning to the difficulties the system encountered over time, offering a comprehensive assessment of the subject.
The Opening Lecture ended with our Rector, Prof. Atilla Arkan, presenting a commemorative gift to Prof. Mehmet Âkif Aydın following the Q&A session.
