Within the scope of the “Contemporary Challenges in Family Law Series - III” organized by Ibn Haldun University School of Law, a conference titled “Family Waqf in Malaysian Law” was held on 11th of June, 2026 with the participation of Prof. Dr. Nor Asiah Binti Mohamad, a faculty member from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
The event, hosted in the Faculty of Law Meeting Room, addressed the legal status, historical development, and contemporary challenges of family waqfs (Waqf Ahli) under Malaysian law.
Prof. Dr. Nor Asiah Binti Mohamad shared insights regarding the restrictive frameworks of state legislation under the Islamic Waqf Validating Enactment 1972, the prerequisites for obtaining authorization from religious authorities, and the gradual revitalization process of these institutions.
To enhance the functionality of family waqfs in the modern era, the key policy recommendations and solutions were highlighted during the conference. The conference concluded with a question-and-answer session following the presentation.
