IHU School of Law has taken another significant step toward strengthening applied legal education. The newly constructed Moot Courtroom was officially opened to student use during a ceremony held on April 21, 2025.
The opening ceremony was attended by our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. İrfan Gündüz, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, our President Prof. Atilla Arkan, Dean of the School of Law Prof. Şükrü Yıldız, along with faculty members and students.
In the speeches delivered during the ceremony, it was emphasized that alongside theoretical knowledge, practical training opportunities play a vital role in legal education. Members of the Board of Trustees highlighted that such infrastructural investments not only strengthen students’ professional competencies but also enhance their self-confidence and advocacy skills—making them a core part of the university’s educational vision.
Evaluations made by the Rectorate and the Dean’s Office emphasized that the Moot Courtroom will be actively used in moot court competitions and practical courses, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in legal proceedings. It was underlined that academic education should not be confined to classroom-based knowledge and that investments in such physical spaces make a direct contribution to student development. The facility is expected to serve both as a practical training ground during applied law courses and as a key platform in preparation for national and international moot court competitions.
During the opening ceremony, students who had previously participated in moot court competitions presented sample pleadings based on the case files they had prepared. Their performance was highly praised, and it was noted that interest in such competitions is steadily increasing. The Faculty reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these initiatives moving forward.
With the goal of training competent legal professionals equipped with both strong academic knowledge and practical skills, IHU School of Law will continue its efforts to strengthen its educational infrastructure.
