Assist. Prof. Meryem Solmaz, at the School of Law at İbn Haldun University, participated in the “Family Mediation” Roundtable Meeting organized by Institute of Social Sciences on July 8, 2025. Held as part of the Institute Agenda Meetings, the roundtable focused on “Family Mediation” and brought together academics, legal experts, mediators, psychologists, theologians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and officials from the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

The meeting discussed the conceptual foundations of family mediation and its place within the current legal system. It focused on the position of mediation in the family context, the structure of family disputes, and how they are reflected in judicial processes. The extent to which the current mediation system aligns with family-specific dynamics was questioned. Participants evaluated what kind of model would be appropriate for family mediation and whether this model should be multi-stakeholder or more law-centered. At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that institutionalizing family mediation requires multidisciplinary cooperation that takes into account not only legal but also psychosocial and cultural dimensions.

We congratulate our academic and wish her continued success.
